the future.

A sanctuary for arrival – in a city that is constantly reinventing itself. An ensemble that continues to write history – while embracing the future. A haven of elegance and charm that creates spaces for every lifestyle. Kreuzberg’s new feel-good neighbourhood. Welcome to the Neue Bockbrauerei.

Exceptional living arises from a place of true character.

The Neue Bockbrauerei is being built on historic ground: It was here, in 1838, that an ambitious entrepreneur opened Berlin’s first Bock beer brewery. Later, various manufactories and businesses set up shop here. The original Berlin mix is now awakening to new life: as a forward-looking district, sustainably planned, with space for living, working and wellbeing.

District

Architecture
that adapts to the
neighbourhood
– contemporary
and well-conceived

Urban living, but relaxed and stylish: adhering to this high standard, the renowned Berlin architectural firm BONANNI has designed three distinct houses in a classic architectural style. Their striking façades and, in part, curved balconies blend with a pleasant harmony into the established Kreuzberg streetscape.

Behind their generous windows lies a bright and joyful living experience. From accessible studio flats to spacious family homes, from garden oases to penthouses with views over Kreuzberg: 130 diverse freehold flats invite you to express yourself freely. Underfloor heating and loggias, exclusive brand-name fittings and private gardens are just a few highlights promising exclusive living comfort in the heart of the capital.

Openness and diversity: The spirit of the Neue Bockbrauerei is evident throughout the district.

Award-winning

The Neue Bockbrauerei has won over prestigious expert juries. In 2023, the project was awarded Germany’s best residential development prize, the B!WRD Project Developer Award, by the Federal Association of Independent Real Estate and Housing Companies. The following year, it received the Special Prize at the Build Europe Awards – recognising outstanding achievements in diversity and sustainability. These two accolades underscore what makes this district in the heart of Kreuzberg so special.

History

The new and
old Bockbrauerei:
A district
with a rich
history

Georg Leonhard Hopf, brewery founder, around 1840

It’s quite an amusing coincidence that a man named Hopf (German for ‘hops’) helped introduce Berlin to a new beer culture. Georg Leonhard Hopf, a cooper from the Palatinate region, arrived in the city in 1820. He soon opened his own cellar and wine shop. Dissatisfied with the standard Berlin beer of the time, he brewed his first Bock beer in an old wash kettle, according to a Bavarian recipe. He wasn’t the only one who loved it; Berliners were also thrilled with this strong beer creation.

So, in 1838, Hopf took a bold step: he built a brewery complete with beer garden and two large halls and organised music and dance events. The concept proved a resounding success. Production volumes grew year after year, though the First World War ultimately spelt the end for Hopf’s Bock brewery.

After the Second World War, the former brewery site became home to businesses from various sectors, including a liqueur factory, a paper merchant and a coffee roastery. In 2022, BAUWERT acquired the ageing site, intending to carefully redevelop it as a mixed-use district and preserve it for the future.
